How to File a Pennsylvania "Right to Know Law" request

(back to "Getting info...)

To file a Right to Know Law request with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (DOC), you simply need to fill out the proper form (available here) and send it to the DOC's Open Records officer, either by email:

RA-docrighttoknow@state.pa.us

or print it out and send it to:

Andrew Filkosky, Agency Open Records Officer
Department of Corrections
Right-To-Know Law Office Office of Chief Counsel
1920 Technology Parkway
Mechanicsburg, PA 17050

***BEFORE filing a RTKL request, do your best to obtain the information by other means: on the DOC website or by calling DOC Central Office (717-975-4859) and finding out which DOC staff member can best answer your questions. The Open Records Office has limited staff, and it will do no one any good to overwhelm them with unneccessary or trivial requests!

***If you use the RTKL form we've supplied, make sure to fill in the colored parts with your own information. TAKE NOTE: We advise that whenever possible, you file your request using email, as the DOC will reply to you using the same format that you contacted them. This means that by using email, your request will likely be fulfilled using electronic files, for which you will often not be subject to the "paperwork" fees that DOC charges when sending paper copies (although other fees can and often do apply).

The DOC website has a  "Right to Know" page, which can be found by going to their home page (http://www.cor.state.pa.us) and clicking on the "Right to Know" link on the left side.
